Sheriff's Deputy Helps Deliver Baby on Side of Highway

A Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputy jumped into action Sunday when an expectant mother was forced to deliver her baby on the side of a road. Body camera video released by the sheriff’s office shows the roadside delivery in Plant City. “She’s ready to go, huh? She’s ready to go,” Deputy Daniel Jones is heard saying to the woman. “All right, look at me, look at me. Breathe through, all right, mama. Breathe through.”

Jones called for an ambulance, but the baby was born before paramedics arrived. Mom and the baby were taken to a hospital and are doing well, officials said. Jones said it’s the third time he has assisted in delivering a baby.

2Life Doula: "This just shows how scared we are of birth in our societal norm as this Sheriff who isn’t doing anything out of malice but rather wanting to help this woman keeps telling her not to push when her whole body is just instinctively expelling her baby out. Out of his own fear and lack or knowledge of birth he doesn’t want to move her and he kept incessantly talking but bless his heart he was just trying to help. All in all she got her baby out and when she did I was like give that baby to her mama while I we was watching it."
